While the international journey of a team of marches is the “connecting thread” of the World March, its reach and substance – its potential to change the social consciousness – can only come about through the development of thousands of local events or initiatives that reach out into our communities and awaken the shared desire for peace and nonviolence.
We encourage all who believe in the goals of the World March to consider developing an event in its support: with your neighbors or civic association; with your fellow students at school or with your co-workers; with your church, synagogue, temple, or mosque; with your dance or music club, hobby group, or sports association. We invite you to participate in whatever way is meaningful to you; there is space for everything the imagination is capable of conceiving.
Examples of events include: local marches, concerts, vigils, meditation groups, forums, dances, art exhibits, workshops on nonviolent means of conflict resolution, peace games with children, poetry readings, bike rides, film festivals, and acts of civil disobedience.
